I am not sure if I am going to get points deducted for going another route with this map, but I wanted to give it a try. There are four classes in my map, indicated by the legend. The classification scheme runs by sizes of dots. Bigger dots = higher poverty areas. I went with this symbolization because, to me at least, it helps put into perspective how dense the poverty problem in Los Angeles is. If I had to redo this map, maybe I would break it into sections and use color, but I am happy with how it turned out because I think it is more impactful. It is easy to see that central and eastern Los Angeles have higher rates of poverty, whereas northern Los Angeles seems more wealthy.
